Taylor Swift Messages Involved in Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni Legal Case, Judge Rules

In a surprising turn, a U.S. federal judge has ruled that messages between Taylor Swift and Blake Lively can be included as evidence in Justin Baldoni’s ongoing legal battle with Lively over alleged harassment on the It Ends With Us movie set.

According to legal filings, Taylor Swift was described as one of Lively’s "dragons", a term Baldoni used to describe Swift and Ryan Reynolds when he was allegedly invited to Lively’s home to discuss script rewrites in 2023.

Why Taylor Swift Is Being Dragged Into the Lawsuit

Baldoni’s legal team had previously attempted to subpoena Swift directly to obtain communications regarding the alleged hostile work environment on the film set. However, Swift’s attorneys rejected the subpoenas, calling them an “unwarranted fishing expedition,” leading to their withdrawal.

Despite that, Judge Lewis Liman ruled on June 18 that messages between Swift and Lively are relevant to the case and can be accessed through the standard legal discovery process. The judge stated:

“Given that Lively has acknowledged Swift’s awareness of issues on set, messages between the two may help establish the validity of the harassment and retaliation claims.”

What the Case Is About

In December, Blake Lively filed a lawsuit accusing Baldoni and his studio, Wayfarer, of sexual harassment and character defamation. Baldoni countersued, but his defamation claim was dismissed earlier this month.

Lively's team has argued that Baldoni is trying to "exploit Taylor Swift’s popularity" for media attention, calling his actions “a distraction from the real issues.” A spokesperson said:

“Since day one, Baldoni and his PR team have attempted to drag Taylor Swift into this purely for tabloid clickbait.”

Swift’s Team Responds

Taylor Swift’s representatives have repeatedly distanced her from the lawsuit, stating that she had no creative or casting role in the film and was never involved in any script edits or rewrites.

They also denied allegations that Lively’s team attempted to pressure Swift into publicly supporting her by threatening to release personal text messages. Swift’s team called the claims “false and sensationalized.”

What Happens Next?

The case between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni is scheduled to go to trial in March 2026. It remains to be seen how much of Swift's communication with Lively will be admitted, but the judge has made it clear that relevant messages can be part of discovery.

Neither Swift nor Baldoni has issued a personal public statement following the judge’s recent ruling.
